. Places to visit within the reach from Nusfjord on bicycles:

  • Henningsvaer
The fisning village of Henningsvaer is situated on a group of islands connected by bridges. It is called "The Venice of Lofoten" because of its narrow harbor, 470 inhabitants.
  • Kabelvag
Once upon a time the biggest fishing hamlet in the Lofoten Islands. Today a village of 1920 inhabitants. Here one finds the beautiful wooden cathedral - built in 1898 with its 1200 seats it is now the bigggest church in the northern part of Norway. The historical area Storvagan is situated about 1 km from the centre of Kabelvag. The first medieval town in the north, Vagar, was situated here.
  • Svolvaer
Svolvaer with its 4500 inhabitants is considered the "Capital of the Lofoten Islands". It became a transit harbor in 1918 and was awarded town status in 1996. One of northern Norway's most important harbors for maritime services, Svolvaergeita - the "Svolvaer Goat". is the town's most characteristic feature, and it represents a challenge to climbers.
  • Reine
The fishing hamlet Reine was chosen as the mosst beautiful Norwegian village by a Norwegian magazine. The small and beautiful wooden houses with its tiny, well-kept gardens, in a group around the white little church, give a very pittorewque impression. The view towards the high peaks and the steep mountains is impressive as well.
  • A
In A you can experience the activities of a genuine, traditional fishing village.
This is the southernmost village on the Lofoten Islands. In all the above places there are interesting small museums and local art shops. There are art collections and more traditional museums.

A piece of good advice:

  • It is always advantageous to see the local tourist offices for last minute advice as to what to see and experience.
