10 Day Italy, Venice Florence and Rome
A perfect Extended Spring Break walking tour.
Day 1 Wednesday Day 2 Thursday. Day 3 Friday. Day 4 Saturday. Day 5 Sunday. Day 6 Monday.
Departure from Chicago on Lufthansa via Frankfurt departing Chicago at 16:40 arriving the next morning at 0750. Continue to Venice.. Dinner and breakfast on board.)
After early arrival at Frankfurt airport, you make a connection to the Lufthansa flight to Venice.
You depart Frankfurt at 12;20 and arrive at 13:35. Upon arrival at Venice our guide will meet you and transfer you, by boat and bus, to the Hotel Metropole, which is centrally located and a short distance from the Piazza San Marco. In the afternoon you may have time for a walk through the Piazza San Marco. You will experience a half hour Gondola ride to a locally run family restaurant for our welcome dinner. (D)
After breakfast your guide will take you on a (4 hour) tour of the Doge’s Palace and the Basilica San Marco. The afternoon is on your own to explore. Dinner is on your own. (B)
After breakfast you depart Venice. You will transfer from the Hotel to Piazzale Roma by boat and from there by private but to Florence. Drive along the Brenta Canal and stop to visit two Palladian villas: Villa Foscari at Malcontenta and Villa Pisani at Stra. After lunch you will continue on to Florence. After checking into the hotel Cavour, you will take a short orientation walk through central Florence. You will see the Cathedral and Bapistry, the Piazza Signoira, and Ponte Vecchio. Welcome dinner at Latini Restaurant or Paoli Restaurant. (B/D)
After breakfast our guide takes you on a (4 hour) tour to the Uffizi Gallery and the Palazzo Vecchio. The remainder of the day you are free to explore Florence on your own. After noon there is an optional tour for those who wish to join. You will visit Santa Croce, Pazzi Chapel and tehn go to Vivoli. (B)
After breakfast your guide will take you on a (3 hour) morning tour dedicated to Renaissance sculpture, as you visit the Bargello (known as the National Museum of Sculpture) and the Academy Gallery, where you will view Michelangelo’s David. The afternoon and evening is free. (B)
Day 7 Tuesday.
After breakfast you depart for Rome. You will drive through the hills of Tuscany to the walled medieval city of San Gimignano, where we will have lunch. You’ll have time for a 2 hour walk to visit the Collegiate Church of Santa Maria Assunta (it has marvelous frescoes), climb up to the Fortress of La Rocca for spectacular views of the thirteen surviving medieval towers, and stroll around the well in the Piazza della Cisterna. In Rome, you will stay at the hotel Atlantico. Dinner is on your own. (B/L)
Day 8 Wednesday.
After breakfast your guide will take you for a (3.5 hour) tour of the coliseum and the Forums. (Subway tickets are not included). You will have lunch in the Jewish Quarterm at Piperno Restaurant. On the way back to the hotel, you will stop at the famous Pantheon. (B/L)
Day 09 Thursday.
After breakfast your guide will take you to visit the Vatican Museums and St. Peters’s Basilica. You will have lunch at the Il Giardinaccio Restaurant, located near the St. Peters Basilica.. The rest of the day and evening is on your own. (B/L)
Day 10 Friday.
After breakfast the day is at your own leisure for shopping , exploring on your own or just relaxing.. The group will meet for the farewell dinner at La Rampa Restaurant.. (B/D)
Day 11 Saturday.
After an early rise transfer to the airport for your flight home on Lufthansa via Frankfurt. The flight departs at 0700 and arrives at Frankfurt at 0905. You continue at 1005 and arrive back at O'Hare at 1105AM!
